List of Suggestions and a Couple of Must-dos

Must-do

Firstly – you must have comprehensive Travel Insurance, I have lost too many things over the years to be without it!

Also an up to date passport with at least 6 months validity – very easy to forget until the last minute when it is too late.

Suggestions

If you are bringing your laptop with you, you must have a three-pronged adaptor plug, not just the normal two-pronged European plug. However, you will need the two-pronged for almost everything else.

Wifi and internet cafes are everywhere, so it is easy to check emails. If you are bringing your laptop, most hotels will have free Wifi that you can use.

As we know, Global Roaming is very expensive, so if you are planning to spend a while in a country, e.g. Greece, it is probably preferable to buy a local SIM card for your mobile, that way you can make phone calls within Greece at local prices, not Global Roaming prices. However, if you are not planning on making a lot of local calls, then probably the Internet and the occasional GR call or SMS will be sufficient.

You probably won’t need a hairdryer or iron in the hotels we are staying in, however, if there is no iron in the room, you can always request one. Iron – did I say iron, we will all be a little creased after a few days, so probably will not be even looking for one!

Rid or some other mosquito repellant.
Of course, 30+ sunscreen – it is very expensive in Europe and not so easy to get 30+.

Sun hat

Thongs or something to wear on your feet at the beach – there are sandy beaches, but they are not like ours and you will probably find a pebble or two. One of the nicest beaches in Corfu is a pebbly beach, so you will definitely need them there and can even wear them into the water when swimming.

Also – good walking shoes, particularly ones with a rubber sole so that you will not slip on the very slippery polished marble that make up places like the Parthenon! It is disconcerting to note the number of foreign people you see on crutches in Europe!

A tube of vegemite – it is amazing how we miss it when we are away from home, and I don’t want you all gazing longingly at mine!
